Who am I as a designer? How do I feel like I'm growing? What disciplines am I interested in? What would I like to do in the future? These are all questions that ponder at the back of my mind that I still no don't have a concrete answer too. However, I do know that I'm willing to take up all the opportunities possible to explore who I am as a future designer in the 21st century. As a first-year design student, I don't know who I am as a designer yet. But I do know that I have a passion for creating new things that can help individuals to improve their everyday lives. I enjoy helping people and putting a smile on their faces, the best feeling to see someone happy. Through my experience with design at high school, I have enjoyed using software such as photoshop and illustrator to create my portfolio. However, I have also appreciated the more hands-on approach with textiles and drawing as I feel more connected with the process. These skills have helped to further grow as a designer as I can now implement them for projects and assignments at University. As an upcoming designer, I would love to create a difference in society. Gender equality, sustainability, and fast fashion and all topics I feel most passionate about, and I hope that through design, I can achieve these to a large or small extent. In particular, the fashion industry is a big issue to ethical, environmental, and social sustainably. Sweatshops, child labour, working and living conditions, toxic dyes, greenhouses gases, and chemicals, (Morgan, 2015) are only a few examples of this destructive industry. As a designer, I aspire to create change within challenges as such to help benefit the lives of others. As of now, I don't exactly know who I am as a designer. However, I know my passions and goals for the future, giving me that drive and determination. I am ready to take on as many opportunities as possible to help discover who I am as a designer.
