It's my best friend. I simply cannot go to sleep without it. Whether it's in my bedroom, in a hotel or on a plane, I must have it with me at all times. This friend of mine is called a sleeping mask. The sleeping mask is also widely known as the eye mask, sleep mask, or sleep blindfold; however, whatever you like to call it, the sleeping mask is the answer to a good night's sleep. Sleep is precious to me as it allows my body to take a rest and sets myself up for a positive and productive day ahead; therefore, I do everything to maximise my sleep time. Remember that time when you couldn't get to sleep because the night lights were beaming through your blinds? Or remember that time when you were in bed by 8 pm, but it was still bright out? This is where the sleeping mask comes in. Not only does it physically block out the light, but getting a good night's rest will help improve your memory throughout the day. "When we are sleep deprived, our focus, attention, and vigilance drift, making it more difficult to receive information" (Harvard University, 2020), which may be the reason why you find it challenging to stay focused at work or on our studies. I have noticed that a good night's sleep has improved my productivity at university, which is why I prioritise on getting at least 8 hours of sleep each night. Ever since discovering the sleeping mask, I have had no issues with my sleep, which is why it is simply my favourite design ever. My first memory of a sleeping mask was when I was at my best friend's (Hannah) house for a sleepover in year 11. Hannah managed to fall asleep within five minutes, and there I was listening to her snoring, and the sound of birds chirping at 6 am; the difference being that she was wearing a sleeping mask. Throughout the day, I was moody and felt like absolute shit, which was enough for me to buy a sleeping mask. Annoyingly, I did not enjoy the feeling of slight pressure over my eyes on the first night. It felt abnormal and uncomfortable as its human nature for something new to feel strange. However, over the next week, I persisted in using the sleeping mask, and as each night went on, I began to fall asleep easier and easier. By Sunday night, I could fall into a deep sleep within five minutes. At first, i didn't believe in the sleeping mask either, but now i couldn't live without it. Sleeping masks are the ultimate game-changers to a good night's sleep. Feeling restless will no longer be an issue; however, you will begin to see the benefits of improved focus, memory, productivity to your day to day life. Falling asleep is no longer an issue for me, so why is it for you? The sleeping mask will simply become your new best friend.
