This UX/UI brief is apart of an assignment for DES200. We have been tasked with re-imaging the UX/UI of Auckland Transport's mobile app for a 6-year-old version of yourself by implementing the design sprint to prototype an app of the Figma software quickly.
Process Documentation
The initial step to the design sprint was understanding the brief correctly through listing assumptions for a transportation app for a 6-year-old. Key assumptions that I made were that the app had to be safe and reliable for the child and parents, physical and sound features, the child can feel independent, and there is an educational aspect to the transportation app.
The first step for the design sprint was to map, visualise and reverse engineer the UX/UI problem. This included research, investigate and deconstruct potential precedents related to re-imagining the at transportation app for a six-year-old. These precedent studies were crucial to my understanding of the brief, thus analyzing what aspects I wanted to include within my app.
Following the assumptions step, we were required to identify gaps of knowledge. One specific challenge I had with the task was my expertise with Figma, as i had never used it before. I managed to mitigate this risk by watching youtube videos and attending the design workshop.
The second step was to iterate potential solutions through our precedent studies. I was able to iterate a diverse range of ideas for my app design. As a result, I combined various components of iterations to come up with a final solution.
The third step was to decide on the best solution; through evaluation of my iterations, I decided to take inspiration from Mario Kart and create Mario Transportation.
The fourth step in the design process was to build the prototype rapidly. I used the Figma software to create my UX/UI design for my app Mario Transportation. The app's main features consist of it being easy to use, live tracking for the parents, an emergency call button, and an educational aspect of Te Reo Maori.
The fourth step was to get feedback from five target users, such as my mum and six-year-old cousin.
Lastly, this UX/UI task's design process's final step was to self-reflect on my outcome and learnings.
Statement of Intent
We were tasked to reimagine the UX/UI of Auckland Transport’s mobile app for a 6-year-old version of yourself. Through the implementation of the Design Sprint, I have designed Mario Transport. Mario Kart inspires this transportation app as it was one of my favourite toys and games as a six-year-old. Additionally, the app will also have an educational element where the children can learn basic Te Reo Maori words such as locations, colours and local landmarks through reading and listening. Mario Transport is also safe and reliable for children and parents through live tracking, bus driver notifications and an emergency call function.
